Have you ever wondered why all the Black kids are watching anime? Or why does K-pop slap so hard? And why does our culture also seem to have sticking power overseas? What is it about our pop-culture that draws each other in?

Hi I’m Delia, the host of Culture x Culture, a multidimensional exploration of Black and Asian pop-cultural ties. I’m a life-long nerd who has dabbled in everything from video games, to anime, to k-dramas. Over time, what I began to notice was that my origin story into nerdom wasn’t that unique.

Ask around and you’ll see that generations of Black folk have independently picked up Asian media with fascination and enthusiasm. And likewise this interest in culture has often been reciprocated here and abroad. Why?

Each week we’ll cover an aspect of this pop-cultural exchange and see if we can solve this question together! We’ll be deep-diving into some of our favorite gateway media, interviewing experts to help guide us through our cultural connections both historical and now, and especially we’ll be chatting with nerds like us to dig into our cultural identities and our pop-cultural interests!
